The standard plan fit within the city of Boise square footage guidelines for an ADU and had all the features they were looking for in a separate living space. This local Boise family came to us interested in building a mother in law suite at their residence in the Boise city limits. They wanted to use the new dwelling as an independent living space for an aging relative. Their relative was also local to the area, but they wanted to be able to be in closer proximity and had decided on this multigenerational living option. As they were exploring our available floor plans, they came across the Piedmont ADU floor plan because it fit within the city of Boise ADU requirements and met the needs they were looking for. After our initial conversation, they decided to work with us to make this mother in law suite in Boise a reality.
Customizations For This Mother In Law Suite In Boise
After reviewing the Piedmont ADU floor plan in more detail, these clients decided not to incorporate any upgrades or customize this floor plan. The plan already included all the features they needed and it fit well on their property without adjustments to the layout. The only custom item they incorporated was a carport instead of including an attached garage with their plan. This allowed them to fit within city restrictions at their property while still providing a covered space for a vehicle.
Challenges Encountered While Building
This mother in law suite was constructed in part during the winter months. As such we encountered a few weather related challenges when installing the fire suppression system as well as the excavation. The excavation was initially delayed due to extremely wet conditions and when it came time to install the fire suppression system, the temperature outside required a special chemical as an anti-freeze agent. This complicated the usual process; however, even after these weather related delays our team at Pathway Builders was able to make up time in other parts of the construction process and still complete this project on time.
A New Multigenerational Living Space
When this mother in law suite in Boise was complete, these clients were able to enjoy all the benefits of their new multigenerational living arrangement without having to relocate to a new home. They were happy with the finished project and our ability to keep their project on schedule despite all the weather related delays.
