When these clients came to us looking for a builder, they were looking for someone that could help them build a custom home in Sweet on land they already owned. Their goal for this new home was that it would be their retirement home. They also wanted a home that allowed them to take advantage of the beautiful views they had from their property. We helped them select our Palouse house plan, a three bedroom, 2 bath floor plan that has large windows in the main living area that would allow them to take advantage of the great views they had from their land, while staying within their home building budget.
Building A Custom Home In Sweet, Idaho: Project Background
It’s not uncommon for us to work with client’s that are building a new home on their land as part of their retirement plans. Sometimes the plan includes a move to Idaho from another state and sometimes we are working with clients that are already local to the area. In this couple’s case, they were already living in the Boise area and wanted to build a home on their land in Sweet, Idaho where they would spend their retirement.
Customization and Special Requests
Building this new custom home in Sweet was part of their plan to move to a quieter area, now that they were semi-retired. They loved the views they had from their property and wanted the home they built to highlight these views. For us, that meant helping them select a custom home plan that had ample windows that could be positioned on their land to take advantage of the view.
Square footage of the home was not a large concern for these clients, but, as one of them was a guitarist, they wanted to make sure that their new home had a room that could be dedicated to this hobby. They also wanted to add a sink in the garage along with a little more space for another dedicated hobby area. To make this happen, we made a few modifications to the floorplan that would use the current square footage to open up more space in the garage for this hobby and to include space for the garage utility sink. This included modifications to the laundry area and adjusting the layout of the garage.
Challenges While Building This Multigenerational Home in Boise, Idaho
For this project, the were very few hiccups along the way. Once financing was in place, we were able to complete the build ahead of schedule due to cooperation from the weather, the seamless project coordination with building trades, and timely responses and input from the clients whenever needed.
At the end of the build, there was an issue with the Certificate of Occupancy from the municipality due to a road access issue. However, we were able to help these client’s secure a temporary Certificate of Occupancy so that they could move into their new custom home in Sweet (early!) while the access issue was resolved.
