For this new custom home in Emmett, Idaho we had the opportunity to work with clients who knew they wanted a high-end design and customization in their home. From initial conversation to completing this home the timeline was around 18 months, with just five months of build time, and the outcome was a truly unique custom home in Emmett.
These clients were moving to the area from California because they wanted the more relaxed Idaho lifestyle and had several friends living in and near Emmett. This is how they ended up purchasing a piece of land in Emmett with the goal of building a custom home when they officially relocated to Idaho. When the process started they were still living out of state and they weren’t sure exactly what they wanted in their new home. Working together, we were able to help them determine what they wanted through the entire process from concept and design all the way through to their finished home.

Project Background For This Custom Home In Emmett
When we first talked with these clients they were living in California and looking to build a new home on their land in Emmett before relocating to the area. They had two small children and were looking to build a home that gave them ample space for the whole family.
Originally they were considering a fully custom house plan; however, during the process, they realized they liked the layout of our Pacific Crest home plan, which is a ranch-style house plan with 5 bedrooms and over 2600 square feet. Once the plan was selected, we moved on the the design and customization, which were important factors for these clients.
Customization and Special Requests
For this custom home in Emmett, we made several adjustments to the design of the home. We updated the original entryway design to incorporate higher ceilings in this area. We also expanded the rear patio so that it was expanded across the back of the house, giving them more outdoor living space. In the great room, we added custom stained wood beams to the ceiling. In the kitchen, we made room for a non-standard four-foot refrigerator.
Also in the kitchen, we created a fully custom designer kitchen package for cabinets, appliances, and lighting. Most of the lighting throughout the entire home was also custom. In the kitchen pantry, we added a laminate counter and in the bathroom of the owner’s suite we built a custom walk-in shower with a bench.
The location of the house on the property was also purposefully angled so that the view into the backyard was angled toward the northwest to accommodate this family’s preference on the views from their property.
With all of these customizations, we had several design appointments to help these clients visualize their options and really dial in what they wanted in their new home in Idaho.
Challenges While Building This Custom Home In Emmett, Idaho
Although the process for this project was longer than usual, due to additional design work and the relocation timeline, the actual build time for the home was less than anticipated and we were able to finish this custom home in Emmett in just 5 months, ahead of our original schedule.
When we first started building, it was the spring and we did run into a challenge with water coming into the crawl space. Because we had this issue during the build, it turned into a benefit as we were able to more easily add a sump pump to help prevent this issue in the future. This mitigated what might have become a larger issue by preventing the same water issues from occurring at a later date after the home was fully built.
Outcome
The finished home was stunning and this client was even more thrilled to be relocating to a beautiful home they had worked diligently to customize to their specific tastes and needs.
Perspectives From the Pathway Builders Team
This was the first time we had built our Pacific Crest home plan and it was great to see it come to life during the process. We had a great time working on this project and even though the client was out of state for much of the design selections, everything came together really well in the final product. The custom kitchen selections made for this home also inspired our designer kitchen package, which is now an option for all of our customers. You can view the designer kitchen package under ‘cabinets’ and add it to your home when you are designing using our Instant Quote Tool.
