This family of four came to us after having talked with several other home builders in the area. Their new home was part of their recent relocation to Caldwell from Oregon. They had experience in building a custom home as they had done so for a previous home they owned in Oregon. As such, they were no strangers to the process of building a custom home and they were looking for a builder that could help them meet several unique specifications they had for their home within their budget.
Because of the neighborhood their lot was in, they had requirements for their home’s square footage. They also had specific requirements for their home’s network connections due to a work from home job in IT security. In the end, we helped them to build a custom house in Caldwell that met all of their family’s specific needs.
Project Details
Build Location: Caldwell, Idaho / Canyon County
Home Plan: Payette, Four Bedroom House Plan
Project Background For This Custom Home In Caldwell
When we first spoke with these clients, they had already discussed their home building goals with other builders, who hadn’t been able to meet the square footage requirements these client’s had for their home. The neighborhood where they owned a lot had minimum square footage requirements that had to be met. This family also wanted a designated office space as one of the family members worked remotely and needed to have the separate space to work from home.
After talking with them about their needs and goals for this new home, we helped them to select the Payette, a four bedroom house plan. This plan included the separate office space and enough square footage to meet their neighborhood requirements. The clients also liked the layout and elected this house plan with a few customizations for their new custom home in Caldwell, Idaho.
Customization and Special Requests For This Custom Home In Caldwell
As we got into the planning for this custom home in Caldwell, the family decided to customize the Payette home plan by moving the master bedroom to the opposite side of the house, separate from the other bedrooms. They wanted to be able to enjoy the view that would be on that side of the home from their bedroom. So we updated the floor plan so that this home would be built with the master bedroom taking advantage of the view from the property.
Because they were a family of four and this home plan originally had four bedrooms, the client’s also wanted to update one of the existing bedrooms by removing a closet to create more space in order to use the room as a den instead of a bedroom.
Another custom feature that we incorporated into this home build was additional wiring for specific network connections needed due to the nature of the client’s remote work. We worked with the client, who was in IT security, to understand the specific wiring requirements, and a contractor that could support these requirements. We knew this was important to our client, so we were diligent in making sure that this aspect of their project was taken care of to the right specifications.
Challenges While Building
Because this client was familiar with the custom home building process having built a home previously, they handled all of the preconstruction considerations very well. This helped to get us started on time and enabling a fairly smooth home building process from start to finish.
Although there weren’t many changes to the project during the build, there was a change made to one of the shower configurations that we didn’t initially incorporate. However, despite this mistake, we were able to change the shower to the updated configuration during the build without any delay to the project build schedule or additional cost to the client.
Outcome
In the end, we were able to build this custom home in Caldwell, Idaho within the original project schedule. After their recent relocation from Oregon to the Boise area, this family of four was happy to get settled in their new home.
Originally they had been looking for an on your land builder that offered the flexibility to help them meet the custom requirements they had for their home within their budget and they were delighted with the outcome.
Perspectives From the Pathway Builders Team About This Custom Home In Caldwell
From the start these clients were great to work with. They had built a home previously and had the experience of going through the process before and they were really attentive to taking care of the preconstruction items. As an example, their property had trees that needed to be removed prior to construction and they made sure to have that done on time.
The permitting process also went really smoothly, so we were able to get started sooner and once we got started the home was completed on schedule even with the customizations that were incorporated. It was a really great project to work on with great people and we’re glad to have been able to help them build their new custom home in Caldwell.
